1.5 Dynamism of the Plan
The Strategic Plan 2002-2006 has been developed through research,
analysis and extensive consultation to ensure it reflects the
vision of the tourism industry. While drawing a figurative line
in the sand, the Strategic Plan will be a dynamic document, evolving
to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
An annual review will be conducted throughout the life of the
plan to evaluate the performance of strategies so that appropriate
action can be taken if required. It may be necessary to change
strategic directions within the plan in reaction to unforseen
events, or shifts in the global environment. Public and private
resource availability will also have an impact. For instance,
it was necessary to significantly change international marketing
priorities in the 1997-2001 Strategic Plan in response to the
Asian crisis that occurred in 1997. It is important to be prepared
should a similar scenario occur again. It may also be necessary
to raise the bar during the life of the plan should performance
targets be consistently exceeded.
The Strategic Plan, for the first time, will be available on Tourism
Victoria's corporate website. Using this communication medium, the
plan will be freely available to more people than ever before, and
be able to evolve online to continue to reflect the vision of the
industry through to 2006.
